Natural Light

NATURAL LIGHT

Photography exhibition on our environment and our responsibilities

“The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the universe about us, the less taste we shall have for destruction.” - Rachel Carson

Contemporary art is not merely a reflection, a documentation of the social or natural reality that surrounds us through the subjective vision of its creators, but a particularly effective means of presenting, visualizing, or, if necessary, dramatizing situations and phenomena that can have a decisive impact on our lives today and in the future.

This special ability of art is the core of Natural Light, a program that uses the power and tools of photography to draw attention to the phenomena of climate change, environmental crisis, and destruction of nature, which seem distant, almost fictitious for so many of us. Their negative effects are to make the situation's criticality tangible and the need for responsibility and empowerment tangible. The special feature of the exhibition is that, unlike usual these day, the dramatic nature of the message is not based on depressing or frightening visual content, but the opposite, the beauty, the aesthetics and sensibility of this photo series are more about engaging the audience, grabbing their attention, seeking to enter into the comfort zone of the viewer.

The exhibition is based on photographs by creators who, although worked independently of each other, are well connected in their messages. These outstanding artists explore and present the impact of human intervention on the environment and what we can lose by continuing to ignore it.

The show has been presented as a traveling exhibition internationally and in fourteen Hungarian locations as part of the Petőfi Cultural Program.
